The truth about dandruff
When you see white or yellow particles in your hair, you might have dandruff. Flakes of dandruff are actually dead skin cells.
If you have dandruff, scaly scalp can, can you experience redness and itching. Scratching will increase detachment of dead skin on the head. You can see more dandruff when wearing dark clothing.
Is no known cause of dandruff. If you have dandruff, does not mean you have dirty hair.
Experts say it is caused most likely by a fungus. Hair follicles and glands in the skin produce natural oil called sebum, which can facilitate the development of fungi. Some of these fungi are found in a normal sense in the skin, but when they multiply excessively, can cause dandruff.

The way you treated hair and especially substances they use for care and styling can damage the scalp. Some hair dyes can cause skin reactions, which may resemble dandruff. If you already have dandruff and wash your hair less often, visible symptoms of the condition may increase because dead skin cells can accumulate in the hair.
Dandruff may increase during months when the air is dry. Cold and dry weather common in winter can worsen dandruff. Other triggers include stress and fatigue.
Sometimes dandruff can occur in several areas of the body other than the scalp, such as the forehead, eyebrows, eyelashes or ears. Flaky skin on areas of the body, covered with hair may be a sign of dandruff – which is a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. If your skin is oily or shows a slight redness, contact a dermatologist because you suffer from seborrheic dermatitis.
Other conditions that can damage the scalp
Other skin problems that can damage scalp acne, eczema and psoriasis. People with serious medical problems such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and HIV, are more prone to dandruff.
For reasons unclear, people recovering after suffering a stroke, heart attack or head injury are more likely to have dandruff.
Sometimes what appears to be dandruff can be a completely different condition. For example, lice can give itching and lice eggs may look like dandruff. In addition, itching of the scalp can be caused by ringworm, a fungus that causes cell death can cause scalp and flakes of white or yellow, as in the case of dandruff.
Although dandruff can be embarrassing, this condition is harmless. Does not mean that you wash your hair or dirty. Dandruff is not contagious.
